Location And Surrounding Area

Talcen Foel is just ten minutes from Aberdaron village, with its well stocked Spar shop, excellent bakery, pubs, café’s and fish and chip shop. The area has many great beaches and coves ideal for swimmers, surfers and anglers alike, and has direct access to the Wales Coastal Path.

Bardsey the Island of 20000 saints is just a short boat ride away. Trips to Bardsey are available throughout the summer, weather permitting, from a local charter boat service and we thoroughly recommend visiting the island . The Charter boat leaves several times a day from Porth Meudwy which is within walking distance of Talcen Foel or there is a free car park situated near the entrance . Booking is essential and of course subject to weather and sea conditions. No dogs are allowed on the island. https://www.bardseyboattrips.com/

The Welsh Coastal Path passes a stones throw from the cottage and offers stunning views of heather clad headlands overlooking the Irish Sea. https://www.walescoastpath.gov.uk/

Explore hidden coves and beaches including the famous Porthor (Whistling Sands), Porth Neigwl ( Hells Mouth – a must for surfers) and Porth Iago and look out for native birds such as the Manx Shearwater, the rare Chough, and resident little Owl population. Out to sea, look out for seals in the deep waters below, Porpoises and Dolphins. You can also venture further afield to scale the Iron Age heights of Tre’r Ceiri or Garn Fadryn for breath-taking views of the Llyn, or just a quick pre breakfast stroll to the top of Mynydd Anelog to watch the sun rise .

Fishing

The surrounding area offers some of the best fishing in Wales with its deep waters and strong currents welling up through the Bardsey Sound. Access however can be difficult and care must be taken on the rocks. The Beaches and coves offer great night fishing and charter boats are available nearby in Pwllheli or Caernarfon for deep sea fishing trips or just short trips to catch a few mackerel for the Barbeque.

Freshly caught Lobster and Crab ( In Season ) can be ordered a week or so in advance from our local supplier for that extra special evening in.

Dark Skies

Talcen Foel lies approximately a mile and a half from the village of Aberdaron. Due to its remote location far away from the light pollution of streetlights the night skies offer a superb display and some of the best dark sky viewing in the UK making it a must for budding astronomers.

Sound of silence

One of the most noticeable things about this special place is the tranquility. Relax and unwind with nature’s chorus – the sea, the birds and the wind and a few bleats.
